I remember him fondly from when I was a kid.  Not my type of music, but I knew of him and did hear him on the radio a lot.

 

On a side note, isn't it interesting that he and Charles Manson died just 2 days apart.  It's like you take a good, you have a take an evil.  You take an evil, you have to take a good.  interesting.
