Songmistress Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I have a grievance. Yeah, you'll be shocked. Me? Agrieved? Yeah. Why do some people send messages on Facebook messenger that just say 'Hi'? They use FB messenger like an IMing thing. I don't see it that way. For me, the messenger is just like another e-mail. There's a little element of chatting with it, sure; I banter back and forth with certain people. But, I still don't ever think of it like an IM. Now, I have people waving at me and sending me 'Hi', as if I'm supposed to stop and shoot the breeze. WTF?! 1 2 Quote

I'm glorifying the culture of busy guys - I ain't got time for that shit. If you want to chat, start a conversation/ask a question/speak your piece. Don't just "hi" me, it makes me annoyed. Kethlia Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 There is a default setting when you have added a friend to your messages that gives you the option to say hi. I vote no and just full chat them when I want to. 3 Quote
Phoenix Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I'm so guilty of this. Maybe *I'm* the social oddball for enjoying idle chat? 4 Quote
Songmistress Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 The thing is, @Phoenix, when you want to get my attention with one word, you say my name. That goes a loooong way in getting me to stop what I'm doing and respond. That works loads better than the people who just send a 'hi' and EXPECT me to stop what I'm going and run to them...as if they were...you. The nerve! 2 1 Quote
Phoenix Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Well, that's easy, it's a fun name! But yeah, I guess just "hi" would be weird. Especially repeatedly. o_O 1 1 Quote
