Lightningfall Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 I had to have heart surgery a little over a year ago. It was the result of an interesting confluence of events, let me tell you. 3 Quote
Dulcet Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 I’m sorry to hear that @Lightningfall. I hope all is well. I have to watch myself before I get in that boat. My family history doesn’t bode well in that category though. 2 Quote
Lightningfall Posted December 17, 2022 Author Posted December 17, 2022 All is well. Thanks @Dulcet. It was mitral valve defect. Had to have it replaced. I've learned a lot about diet and exercise as preventative measures. Really, there's not much else that can be done with any certainty. 1 Quote
hirondelle Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Oh my goodness @LightningfallI'm so sorry to hear you have been poorly! I don't know anything about Mitral Valve defect but it doesn't sound fun... I am sending my love. Please keep us updated. 1 1 Quote
Moonhawk Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Im sorry to hear that. Excessive and change of diet and lifestyle would help tons my friend. I had to loose 50 lbs. just to start still need to loose 50 more. Family history doesn’t bode well for me either. 1 1 Quote
Lightningfall Posted December 18, 2022 Author Posted December 18, 2022 @hirondelle Well, the surgery was over a year ago and I'm doing quite well, thank you. I'll get the whole story on here soon. Time is at a premium right now, though. I was lucky @Moonhawk, I wasn't unhealthy in most respects. That's not to say that I didn't need to make a lot of changes, just that my poor habits weren't severe. I do appreciate the concern. 1 Quote
Timberwolf Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Oh no @Lightningfall! I'm glad that you are doing better. 1 Quote

I was not doing very well for a couple of months before the surgery. But I was very glad when it was over. 1 Quote
Timberwolf Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 That's great to hear. What kind of restrictions do you have now because of it? Quote
Lightningfall Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Actually, it's mostly dietary. Very, very little salt, I have to be careful with vitamin K. Most of it's preventative. Since it was a defect, not something I did, the doctors just want to make sure that I get the most out of my new valve and that I won't have to have it replaced again anytime soon. Oh! And I'm highly discouraged from becoming a stunt driver. I don't know if I'll ever get over that one. Honestly, diet and exercise. I have to take my meds but, other than that, I really don't have anything that isn't pretty easy. Now I just wish I was a better cook, and that I actually liked to cook. That would make all of this a breeze. 1 Quote
