Oo I like it - and so true, though touching screens isn't all bad Also enjoyed the video - I want to know what the city was the arial footage was of. Parts of it looked like HK but other parts (higher up, with the circles) didn't.

Exactly how I feel *snuggles* I will await your explanation.... I too have found life can be untidy at times and I am sure I have many stories to tell since we were last together.

Oo I didn't know you studied Japanese @Songmistress, @Timberwolf studied it for a little while too. Interesting language. Do you guys find that learning a language unlocks sthg that is otherwise closed culturally? I always feel you think about differently if you start to learn a different language. I would be interested in that blog post Phoenix, not that I am learning Japanese but I am in the language app business professionally, so I am always interested in details about how people learn.

Standing during the US National Anthem?
hirondelle replied to Timberwolf's topic in The gentle debate
As @Timberwolf knows he and I differ slightly. Like him I believe Kaepernick has a just cause, but where we differ I think the method while offensive (to uber patriotic white America) is valid. Why? Because it got everyone's attention. I don't think the mainstream America understands white privilege. It is so difficult and painful a topic that it is hard to explain to people what racial equality / inequality means. It is something you can't see or understand until you get it... so it is hard to persuade someone of it. But the US football field is one of the few areas where American people of colour have something like equality. They are brilliant, respected and they are ambassadors. They have power there - and they are choosing to use that power in a very controversial way. But let's be honest, they aren't scratching their ass during the anthem, they aren't talking or booing or surreptitiously slipping popcorn into their mouths (which I have done during the Thai anthem at the cinema). They are kneeling quietly and with dignity. They are respecting themselves and their right to be considered equal. And it is long overdue. Their choice of protest is brilliant - this couldn't happen in the UK as we aren't patriots in the same way. They have such a long way to go though - but I wish them well.- 27 replies

Yay sweet @SoulDragon is here! I follow you very closely in FB but like you say you can have deeper conversations here. I missed it too.

Ok here is another... do you remember the LPS? A thread we will always associate with @Songmistress and her Knight. However we have many talented bards on the form and one of them wrote this darkly lovely thing. Can you guess who? Autumn Falling gently to the ground. Whipped away and tossed around. Torn apart and finally shed. Lost and cold and full of dread. Strong and weak alike succumb. Falling deep, going numb. Casting colors on the ground. Standing fast without a sound. Coming softly from the north. Slowly moving, going forth. Teasing, tugging, full of life. Cooling to the cutting knife.

I feel like we need a health and fitness area, to cover mental and physical health, diet exercise and whatever, trying to determine scale of interest and preferences. Would you prefer: a) an area with several forums (dividing, diet / exercise / mental health for example) b) themed threads in a single forum in one of the existing forums (presumably Myst) c) a single forum for 'general health' with a sub forum on 'diet and exercise' d) other (make a suggestion)

I'm listening to my aircon... I just wanted to start this thread for a friend

It's a great place to live. This is quite a 'touristy' take on it - the floating vendors are sthg you don't really see anymore (unless you go to the floating market and they are tourist traps). But otherwise it is a pretty cool glimpse of where we live.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to mention THAT place lol One of my favourite things at the moment - is art and journalling. Though I mostly watch videos about it on YT rather than doing it.
