  1. Anyone in here play Animal Crossing? @Kenai got me addicted and it’s all her fault.
  2. I’m on a government assistance program called SNAP which issues monthly food stamps on a card that’s still called Illinois Link. I don’t know what other states call it but food stamps can only be used for food and you don’t pay tax. I usually get $60 a month put on there but this month (in light of COVID-19) they put an extra $110 on the card for me to use for the month.
  3. I’m currently taking a class that I’ve always wanted to learn for only $11.99. Udemy finally got me and I couldn’t be happier. I also went shopping today because I had extra Link money put on my card. No stimulus check yet but I’m surviving. And fuck. That’s a good thing. The class I’m taking on Udemy is on pandas in python using Anaconda. I haven’t learned anything fancy yet but my goal is to create a portfolio of some sort on the blog here to show employers. Basically I’ll be manipulating datasets and turning them into visuals if possible. I’m really excited.

  7. This has long been my favorite place to check in. I only wish it were under better circumstances. All good things have been happening lately. I moved closer to the city of Chicago and am hopefully in a better environment. EVERYTHING is is right at my corner including a Walmart, Gamestop, and an ALDI. I'm pretty well stocked up on. food and toilet paper luckily. I'll see how stores are next week. I'm fien and don't have any symptoms, but our building is doing a self-quarantine thing I guess. There's staff here and staff cannily communicate with us by phone now until further notice. And all groups have been canceled. No visitors are allowed either. I'm thinking this also means our mail isn being held because I haven't gotten any mail in the last few days since the policy took effect. I'm doing fien though Having lived in DuPage county my entire life, adjusting to Cook County has been rough. I won't be able to see a psychiatrist for a few more weeks which sucks, Services over all are more limited here, despite it being closer to the city. I've been living off gas station food because I'm too lazy. McDonald's and Burger King were my go to spots when I first moved here, but I don't have a car to use the drive thru. I have been getting out and getting exercise everyday. I walk a lot. There's a blind guy downstairs that asks me to take him places like the gas station and the blood bank across the street so it feels kinda nice to be needed by someone. My neighbors are nice and under regularly scheduled weeks we have game nights and coffee talk. But the corona virus has definitely put a damper on social events and things here. I'm bummed because now is the time I normally go to my cousin's soccer game she coaches. All games have been cancelled until further notice. I remember with swine flu she had trouble getting other teams to play her and kids shaking hands was a big deal. This is much worse cuz I don't remember whole sporting events being cancelled. Oh well. I just hope all this hand washing pays off in the end and we live through all this. Stay safe ya'll and I love ya. *HUGS & LICKS*
  8. Earlier this year I was suspended from my master's program because I could not keep up with the class I was in and ended up not finishing a class which I'm paying out of pocket in order for the chance to return in January. I am on suspension for 6 months plus 2 more because it was in the middle of the term. Does that make sense? My point is I've been doing jack shit since then and it's been driving me up the wall. Last weekend there was a family picnic and of course I got asked what I was up to. The truth I just typed out. I told them I was on a break from school. Which is true. The thing is I'm not certain if I could go back. Just get a job, right? I have no car and public transportation is shitty out here where I am at. I have a freaking IT degree and all the job offers I get are in places that require a vehicle to get to. It sucks. I've been out of work for a few years now and to be truthful I don't even know if I can handle a full time job. (For those that don't know, I'm on disability so that's where I get my income.) I've fallen into a sort of depression. I'm fine, but motivation to do stuff, anything productive has gone to shit. I am just now firing up my laptop which has not been used since April. With what I have done, and how hard I worked to get where I am, it feels frustrating being in the position I am in. Who gets suspended from grad school? Wasn't that high school stuff? That's why I feel so alone in this. It's really weird. All I've been doing the past few months is watching streamers on Twitch and playing video games, which I know is not the most attractive thing to tell people. If I had a car things would be a lot easier, but I'm on a fixed income and my budgeting skills are sub par. I do fine on my own, but I really need something to spark up my life again. That's why I figure I would come here for some sort of support. I missed you guys, dearly. In November I can do my appeal and see if I can go back to the school and try something new. I was thinking of Health Informatics? I'm not sure. I'm really undecided what my next step should be. I've never felt this way. Hopefully this post can be a progressive step forward and will motivate me to find something productive to do.

    Bears are NFC North Champions!!
  17. I just got myself a Switch in prep for the new Smash Bros Ultimate game. I’ve been playing Octopath Traveler on it so far and it’s a great JRPG. I was sad to give up my Wii U but all my favorites (like Bayonetta & Mario Kart) are on the Switch as well. @Timberwolf what’s your friend code?
  18. I’m finally getting the hang of this grad school stuff that’s been kicking my ass lately. All my late work grades came in yesterday so it was nice to know I’m not failing.
  19. Water. Actually I bought this soda stream thing that has been helping me lose weight by kicking my pop addiction.

@Timberwolf what’s that number in the third column? Mitch is still our QB and the football gods have granted us first place in NFC North Week 3. I can say no one expected this, but I’m ok with that. Also @Ren, somewhere Tim Russert is smiling. Go Bills!!!

    School.

It’s online at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). I would go brick and mortar but most data science programs are online and those around here that have it aren’t well established. I got to peek inside my classroom this week and I’m excited. I’ll soon be able to fiddle with datasets and I’ll post stuff here and on my site. I bought a domain but it’s under construction now but when I have stuff to post I’ll probably duo-post it here as well via blog. My first two grad classes are Project Management and Foundations of Data. I’m nervous because I tested out of stats and the basic IT crap since my undergrad was in IT. So far the people posting have at least a decade of industry experience. But I’ll be ok. I prepped pretty well these last few months. I wish you luck @fox in your graduate endeavor.

    School.

Words cannot describe my happiness right now. I’ll be starting grad school in October to pursue data analytics. I’ve been in school since 2004. It’s kinda my favorite topic. I recently completed my bachelors in IT. Student advisers are why. So much props to you for taking on that role. Seriously, you’re awesome. I’m a bit nervous going into grad school as this time I actually have to get one of those gigs that actually pays money. But data science is hot so I’m not too worried. But I can say being an online student gets lonely. Lots of people hate communicating so group projects suck. @fox is your school online or brick and mortar?
  25. Load on the meats and cheese. I can tolerate anchovies actually. Pineapple? As long as its combined with something else.
